The continuous supply of energy at affordable prices is called energy security, which is very important for guiding a country's economic activities. In this regard, this study examined the factors affecting energy security risk in Middle Eastern countries with an emphasis on natural resource depletion, conflict, and financial development during the period 2000-2022. The results using the cross-sectionally augmented autoregressive distributed lag (CS-ARDL) estimator show that the effect of natural resource depletion on energy security risk is positive and significant, which in a way confirms the resource curse from an energy perspective. The effects of the conflict risk index and the composite financial development index on energy security risk are also positive (and significant) and negative (and significant), respectively. According to other results, economic growth, trade, and technology reduce energy security risk in the countries studied. The robustness of the empirical results has also been confirmed using the PMG-ARDL method. Accordingly, it can be said that sustainable consumption of natural resources, reduction of internal and external tensions and conflicts, and development of the financial sector play an important role in the energy security of the studied countries.
