Sustainable growth and reducing environmental pressures are key priorities on the global agenda, and there is a need for more comprehensive approaches to assess environmental quality. Therefore, a broad and comprehensive environmental assessment is needed to reduce environmental challenges and achieve sustainable development goals. This research examines the impact of the dynamics of economic growth, fossil fuels, renewable energy, and urbanization on the sustainable load capacity index using the modified least squares and dynamic ordinary least squares methods over the period 1374-1401 for Iran. Based on the estimates obtained from cointegration tests, the consumption of renewable energy increases the load capacity in the Iranian economy, while economic growth reduces the load capacity. Also, fossil fuels, urbanization, and resource rent have a negative effect on load capacity. Accordingly, each one percent increase in economic growth reduces the load capacity by -0.38, and each unit increase in urbanization, fossil fuels, and resource rent reduces the load capacity by -0.40, -0.12, and -0.09, respectively. Also, a one-unit increase in renewable energy consumption adds 0.15 units to the load capacity.
