Developing Trade Between Iran and Russia: A Strategy for Achieving the General Policies of the Resistance Economy

Abstract

With the intensification of sanctions against Iran and Russia, both countries have adopted resistance economy strategies in order to strengthen their domestic economies. This shift has led to changes in their trade policies, with a growing focus on Eastern trade partners to replace Western markets. This has led to increasing willingness from both nations to establish a sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship. The aim of the present study is to propose a strategy for further developing trade relations between Iran and Russia in line with the broader objectives of Resistance Economy doctrines. For this purpose, survey and library research methods were employed to gather data, and the SWOT-ANP approach was utilized to analyse the gathered information.
The results revealed 7 strengths, 12 weaknesses, 7 opportunities, and 8 threats. The weights assigned to each factor were as follows: strengths (0.346), weaknesses (0.308), threats (0.218), and opportunities (0.128). Among the strategic options, WO (Weakness-Opportunity) strategies received the highest weight at 0.38, followed by WT (Weakness-Threat) strategies at 0.26, SO (Strength-Opportunity) strategies at 0.23, and ST (Strength-Threat) strategies at 0.13.
