Abstract

In the contemporary world, economic security is widely recognized as a crucial pillar for sustainable development and social stability. This concept is not only relevant to the welfare and quality of life of citizens, but is also relevant to macroeconomic stability and international relations. Furthermore, the increasing complexities manifested by the global economy, coupled with ongoing political and economic crises, renders exploration and analysis of economic security from an Islamic perspective increasingly relevant. The ideas of Imam Khomeini (RA) can play a significant role in informing discussions around these topics. Therefore, the objective of the present article is to examine and analyse Imam Khomeini’s (RA) thought regarding economic security. Given the significance of economic security in ensuring the stability and sustainable development of the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially amid international sanctions and external pressures, this subject remains highly relevant.
The research focuses on six key dimensions of economic security, employing a data-driven approach and qualitative content analysis of Imam Khomeini’s (RA) speeches, as compiled in Sahifeh Imam. These dimensions are: economic independence and self-sufficiency, Islamic culture and identity, the role of the market and economy, resistive economy and development, security and military policies, and social and economic issues. These interconnected dimensions are further elaborated through the examination of their various components and indicators. The findings suggest that the perspectives of Imam Khomeini (RA) provide a comprehensive framework for shaping economic and social policy in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
